Big Event

The Big Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation where students of Texas A&M University come together to say ‘thank you’ to the residents of Bryan and College Station. There were approximately 12,000 volunteers this year. Here are some pictures of our group's service.

The Big Event group all gathered together to listen to Former President Bush.

My roomie, Amanda, gathering leaves!

Me moving wood- looks like I have a hard hat on...but I don't.

This would be Jonathan...with the rose bush that he planted...

My roomie and her friend Laura (working hard apparently)

My lovely boyfriend, Parker, raking leaves!

Parker and I!

Jonathan getting some work done!

Amanda P. and Ben working together!

Mandy's nose was dripping cause it was cold, but she had logs in her hands, so I decided to help her out. What best friends are for!

Gloria telling us all how much she appreciated our work.

The group! We had no one to take the picture so we took 2. I took one and so did parker...so I cut parkers head out of the other one and pasted it into this one. I could have done it in photoshop and made it look legit, but that wouldn't have been as funny. Can you find Parker's pasted head?

What actually happened was that our group went to the woman's house that we were supposed to help and she rather angrily told us that she didn't need our help and that she had called Big Event and cancelled. We called the Big Event team and they knew nothing of it, so they told us to come back to campus and turn in our gloves if we wanted. Well, we all went inside this old "Mee-Maw and Pee-Pop's" country store and sat down out of the 38 degree weather to discuss what to do. Meanwhile, I went and asked the shop owner if she had any work that needed to be done. She said no, but that she knew someone who did. After we swept the lounging area of her store she directed us to Gloria. It ended up being an extremely rewarding day.

Bad Day

I took my calculus test today...and I did NOT feel okay about it. I think I made a low C...which really really stinks. But, my professor does offer a bonus quiz afterward (no telling how much it will be worth) but I'm hoping it will be at least 10 points so I can potentially get a B on the test. uhg. That just ruins my day. And on top of that, the weather is disgusting and cold outside. I really want today to be over. ick.

On the up side, my theatre arts class got cancelled which is good because that class bores me to tears. The e mail that notified me of the cancellation read as follows:
Class is canceled today - having my foot worked on.

I thought that was funny. Anyways, I am going to go play with photoshop and go into chelsea world for the next twenty minutes in order to lick my wounds from my calculus test. :(

Scissorhands vs. Cullen

Edward Scissorhands or Edward Cullen?
okay, I can't decide...I love both dearly. Here are some facts to help you make your decision

EXHIBIT A: popularity
Edward Scissorhands Movie (1990)
Domestic total gross income: $56,362,352
Twilight Movie (2008)
Domestic total gross income: $191,368,000 (along with $181,980,944 foreign income, giving it a worldwide total gross of $373,348,944.

Cullen- 1
Scissorhands- 0

EXHIBIT B: type
Edward Scissorhands is classified as a Fantasy Drama.
Twilight is classified as a Romance.

This win has to go to fantasy drama. So much cooler.
Cullen- 1
Scissorhands- 1

EXHIBIT C: actor
Johnny Depp

Robert Pattinson

Hands down, Johnny Depp.
Cullen- 1
Scissorhands- 2

EXHIBIT D: character (male)

Edward Cullen

Edward Scissorhands

hmm...difficult. I would have to pick Cullen though.
Cullen- 2
Scissorhands- 2

EXHIBIT E: character (female)
Kim (Winona Ryder)

Bella Swan (Kirsten Stewart)

I have to choose Winona.
Cullen- 2
Scissorhands- 3

EXHIBIT F: storyline
Edward Scissorhands: An Avon lady, Peg Boggs (Dianne Wiest), discovers the half-finished experiment--a man/monster named Edward (Johnny Depp)--of a mad scientist (played magically by Vincent Price) living in the neighborhood's old abandoned castle. The scientist died before replacing the shy man's large shears with real hands. When Peg attempts to bring Edward into her suburban world, to live among her skeptical family (husband Alan Arkin and daughter Winona Ryder) and gossipy neighbors, his hands--dangerous yet capable of creating things of great beauty--make for some awkward, funny, and poignant situations: Edward as a topiary gardener, Edward as a cutting-edge hair stylist. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS is a story about tolerance, difference, and creativity as much as it is a story of a young man's coming of age (the young man in question is, of course, a monster). In the ironically surreal world of Edward's suburban community, he must try to find his place in it, and in the world at large.

Twilight: TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands - and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?

Okay, at this point I have to say that as far as movies go, Edward Scissorhands wins right here.

Cullen- 2
Scissorhands- 4

But, the fact that Twilight is a book (and a page-turner, at that) and there will most likely be three more movies following this one, Cullen has to get 2 points.

Cullen- 4
Scissorhands- 4

So there you go. I can't decide.

Disc Golf

Disc Golf: Day One (with Jake and Ande)

This wasn't the first picture of the day, but he just looks so cute, I had to start with it!

On our way to the course!

This is Parker with his lunch box of frisbees! He hates it when I call it that. :)

So, I don't know if any of you have played disc golf, but I am not skilled at this particular game. However, Parker happens to be quite good at it, therefore he likes to go a lot. I had been once before, and I really made a fool of myself. Honestly, I'm spastic. We went two times this weekend though. oh, but let me tell you about my epic fail moment of my disc golf playing career. Today when we went, there was a large group of people playing on the "hole" (I don't really understand this term...there are no holes in disc golf...only little chain-Frisbee-catcher thingies and signs that tell you where to go...but whatever) ahead of us. They were letting people pass ahead of them because they were such a large group and would slow other players down. (I think they're group would have had to be about three persons larger to slow me down...but again, whatever.) So, here I am, holding this Frisbee...oops. *ahem* "distance driver" and feeling quite nervous because of the group of 7 people that is about to watch me throw it. Parker throws, he does amazing (As usual). I step up...and take a deep breath...and I throw...and hit the tree three feet in front of me. I kid you not. embarrassing.

Anyways, here's the picture log of those days...minus the embarrassment.

DAY ONE: DISC GOLF

this is Ande (one of my roomies for next semester!) and her boyfriend, Jake (Parker's current roomie). They went with us the first day.

and everything was going just great, until...

Parker's frisbee went into the water. :(

It actually got pretty hillarious. (not for Parker, of course. but still...) The frisbee he lost had an a&m symbol on it and his friend had made it for him, so he was determined to find it.

then after he found his frisbee, he kept on feeling around in the water for OTHER frisbees that people might have lost...lol. Can you say "poor college student"?

He didn't find any more frisbees, but he was pretty excited that he didn't end up losing his beloved a&m one. Here he is giving the good 'ol aggie "'gig em".

Heres Parker and I being silly while walking back...

...and again.

I was really tired from all the hardcore disc-golfing that we did that day, so apparently I wasn't walking all that fast. Parker took my hand and walked fast so I would walk fast...so i decided to be smart and pull my hand out so he couldn't make me walk any faster than I wanted to. Didn't work. he still had ahold of my jacket. but I didn't stop resisting the fast pace. :)

awwwh! a perfect end to a perfect day!

and then I had to study biology. yuck.

DAY TWO: DISC GOLF

Okay, so I'll be the first to admit that I look kinda creepy in this picture...but Parker looks so cute! I had to post it.

I decided I like picking flowers more than I like playing disc golf...(shh! don't tell Parker, but I have a small collection of flowers that I have been picking inside of his disc golf bag! tee-hee!)

I made Parker a flower necklace! He actually didn't have a problem wearing it...he didn't complain at all!

The End!
